The Eastern Screech Owl For Sale (Megascops asio) is a small owl native to North America. It is found in a variety of habitats including deciduous and mixed forests, swamps, and urban areas. These owls are most active at dawn and dusk and use their excellent hearing to locate prey such as insects, small mammals, and birds.

 

Eastern Screech Owls are small, only reaching about 8-10 inches in length and weighing around 5-8 ounces. They have a distinctive round head with large, prominent ear tufts, and their feathers are typically grey or reddish in color. These owls are well-camouflaged in their natural environment, and their coloring helps them blend in with tree bark and leaves.




Eastern Screech Owls are not typically kept as pets, as they are protected by law in many areas and require specialized care. It is essential to respect and protect these animals in the wild, as they play an essential role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystem. They tend to be most active at dawn and dusk. The breast and belly are heavily streaked and spotted with black. Males and females look alike. They are approximately eight inches tall, with yellow eyes.
    • Red and Gray individuals occur across the range of the Eastern Screech Owl For Sale, with about one-third of all individuals being red. Rufous owls are more common in the East, with fewer than 15% red at the western edge of the range.
    • No red owls are known from southern Texas, although they occur further north in Texas and further south in Mexico. Intermediate brownish individuals also occur in most populations.




Eastern Screech Owl pairs usually are monogamous and remain together for life. Some males, however, will mate with two different females. The second female may evict the first female, lay her own eggs in the nest, and incubate both clutches.
